I got Cole (and Drew, sorta) a cell phone. They're 8. Go ahead, judge me... And now let me totally justify it. I'm really good at that ;). Backstory : Cole and Drew, 8 years old. Cole, Dyslexic and has a CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder). Drew, Autistic (some would be offended that I said he is autistic and not that he has autism... I aint PC, ok??) And now the justification!!...The boys never have overnights with their Dad(looong story and not one for the blog). But a situation arose last weekend allowing them to have one... When I told them they would be sleeping at their Dad's they were a tad apprehensive...and let's be honest, I was waaay apprehensive! But talking to "my sweetest, dearest and best friend" Eileen( I was told by "someone" that it should "read" this way!) about it (YES Eileen you made the blog!!) she suggested I activate an old cell phone so the boys (Cole) could call whenever they wanted. And no one would feel too far from home. So I did just that and at the same time came up with other excuses why they should have a cell phone at 8!!!!
Cole's disabilities make spelling, reading, comprehending etc REALLY hard. And Drew, well that's a whole other ball of wax(but he is AMAZING and has come SOOOooooOOO far!) I thought "hey a cell phone with a "QWERTY" keyboard and an unlimited text plan(had to get it since I had one, ugh) could HELP a kid with dyslexia", right??? I would text. He would have to respond via text. Practice spelling AND reading, right?? RIGHT?????
Wrong.... clearly I forgot who my kid Cole is... He figured out about "voice memos" and "picture messages" AND "video messages" ... *sigh*. BUT the cell phone thing was perfect for their first and maybe only weekend overnight with their Dad!! And I think we all felt a little better having it, well except for "The Dad".. I think he hated it ;) But I'm not trying to win him over, CLEARLY ;). They'll be keeping it for now. And anyone that wants to talk or text or voice message or picture message or video message with a couple of 8 year old let me know, I'll put you in their contacts!!
Oh and another thing, I've been letting my boys stay up till 10pm..... go ahead.... judge me :)
